AT THE END OF
THE DAY

2022 // Bolzano Art Week
4 video channels, 1 video mixer, 1 audio channel

Before the landing and after the toss there is a specific moment where all the senarios are open, a suspended moment of complete uncertainty. What is the role of expectation? Hope, abandon and pre-vision weave together. The outcome does not depend on us; it is free to self-determine. Is it a coincidence or a script already written? The situation is not in hand, we are not masters of the future. Trust in fate as a specific and decisive factor clashes with the tension of loosing control.
At the end of the day a video installation made up of four monitors arranged in a circle, in which a 50-cent coin twirls from one screen to another virtually traversing physical space. The coin rotates itself throughout the day, distributing its weight around its center, creating a dance from the friction with the surface, until it falls and stops at the end of the day. Each day is a new beginning and a new end. The sound of friction between the coin and the ground, the melody of its existence, reaches our senses before sight. The viewer and the artwork create an interplay producing a condition where they can analyse the flow of their coexistence with the world, rediscovering the magnitude of the dimension of waiting, which has been precisely removed from their self-perception. Here it is only possible to embrace the breathlessness of the present, that moment of total contact with oneself that lies between the before and the after.
